MT. VERNON, Ohio (WTVN) -- Twelve people have been indicted in a prescription drug trafficking operation in Knox County after a months-long investigation.

Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher says the indictments include over 400 counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated funding of drug activity and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Suspects were accused of going to the Tampa, Florida area where they would visit pain clinics to obtain powerful painkillers then bring them back to Ohio.

Thatcher said the drugs included over 100,000 prescription pills such as Percocet and others with a street value of about $2 million.

"Those pills were being abused and were being used to traffic in Knox County as well as other counties," he said.

Half of those involved in the operation are from the Columbus-area while the rest are local to Knox County.

Thatcher says shutting down the operation is a significant step in combating the state's opioid addiction epidemic.

Those arrested on Tuesday include:

  • Terry N. Jacobs, 42,  of Mount Vernon
  • Heather L. Jacobs, 36, of Mount Vernon
  • Christopher J. Matheson, 35, of Mount Vernon
  • Tammy S. Ingles, 49, of Mount Vernon
