COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) --The victim of a shooting on Columbus's west side tells police it was the result of a misunderstanding---and a poor fashion choice.

Christopher Deeds, 30, says after riding his bike to the Food Mart Express in the 2700 block of Sullivant Ave. near S. Warren Ave. he forgot to take off his ski mask as he walked into the store.

The clerk, believing he was about to be robbed, got a gun, confronted Deeds and forced him out of the store into the parking lot.

Police say the clerk fired a round into the pavement, worried there might be more than one person involved.

The bullet ricocheted, hitting Deeds in the left foot.

Deeds wasn't seriously hurt and said he had no plans to press charges against the clerk.
